How to make wholemeal cake

To make a simple wholemeal cake, start by beating the egg yolks, margarine and sugar in a blender to make a white cream. Then sift together the flour and baking powder and gradually add to the mixture, alternating with the milk. Beat the egg whites until stiff and add, stirring gently with a spatula. Then shape the mixture into a greased and floured cake tin and bake in a preheated medium oven at 180ºC for around 30 minutes. To find out if the wholemeal cake is ready, first test it with a toothpick and then allow the cake to cool slightly before unmolding. Then it's ready to eat! If you wish, top the cake with icing sugar.

Ingredients:

  • 3 sieved egg yolks
  •  1 cup margarine
  •  1½ cups sugar (240 grams)
  •  3 cups whole wheat flour
  •  1 tablespoon baking powder
  •  3 egg whites (beaten into snow)
  •  1 cup of milk (240 milliliters)

Directions:

  1. First of all, to make a simple wholemeal cake, beat the egg yolks, margarine and sugar in a mixer until they form a whitish cream.
  2. Then sift the flour with the yeast and gradually add to the mixture, alternating with the milk. Beat the egg whites until stiff and incorporate, mixing gently with a spatula.
  3. Then pour the mixture into a previously greased and floured medium-sized pan and bake in a medium oven, preheated to 180ºC, for about 30 minutes. To find out if the wholemeal cake is ready, use the toothpick test.
