Losing two loved ones at the same time is an indescribable pain. This was the harsh reality faced by the families of Carmo Norberto Gonçalves, 60, and his granddaughter Emily Eloa Gonçalves Pereira, just one year old, who died in a tragic traffic accident in the interior of São Paulo.

The Accident

The accident took place last Thursday, the 27th, on a side road between Assis and Palmital. The truck driven by Carmo collided head-on with another vehicle while he was trying to access the entrance to Palmital.

Unfortunately, Carmo and Emily, who was in the back seat, couldn't resist their injuries and died at the scene. The child's mother, who was also in the vehicle, was rescued and taken to hospital along with the driver of the other car involved in the accident.

Commotion in the community

"We've never seen this before. How sad. They'll be veiled together. That baby was Grandpa's darling. We all knew them here in Andirá. We wish strength to this mother who has lost her father and daughter," lamented a funeral director.

The bodies of grandfather and granddaughter were mourned together in the Municipal Hall of Andirá, Paraná, the city where Carmo lived. The burial took place on Friday afternoon, June 28, in a ceremony that brought together friends and family, all deeply shaken by the tragedy.

Accident Investigation

The circumstances of the accident are still under investigation by the police. It is not yet known which of the vehicles was on the wrong side of the road, but the police are working to clarify the details of the incident.
